Here, with pictures, is a complete directional piece on running around Briggs Lake in the Roche Harbor Watershed/Highlands area.  I would guess that this run is around 5 miles, give or take some.
For a map of this area visit:  http://www.sanjuanislandtrails.org/trails/roche/roche.html

To begin this run, park your car or motorcycle in the dirt parking lot at the corner of Valley and Roche Harbor Road.

From the parking lot head for the trail that is off to the left, some.

In this photo you can see the trail head in the left hand side of the picture.  You can run along Roche Harbor Road or take the single path connecting the parking lot to the trail head.

On on the trail, which is really a fire access road, one begins to climb up through the trees.  You will pass by Alders, Evergreens and Madrona trees as well as various ferns and grasses.

This fire access road is in good shape.  Roche Harbor Resort keeps the grass mowed back in summer time.

After a few minutes of running your will come to the first directional sign.  Follow this sign for the Lake Loop Trail.

The second directional sign with the arrow for the Lake Loop Trail.  Keep following this trail.

This Lake Loop Trail is just that, a big loop around Briggs Lake and when run clock-wise, as these directions are for, the lake will always be somewhere out of sight on your right.  As you start running down the incline that you had just spent some time running up you will come to this directional sign that points the way to Roche Harbor Road, our staring point.

As your run down past Briggs Lake, which you will begin to see through the tress, there exists some spots that a spur will lead off to the right and you can walk/run down to the lake itself.  This picture show the docks.

From this angle I am looking up the trail that I had just run down.  The lake rests off to the left of this picture and a spur leads down to the lake.

Keep following these signs to Roche Harbor Road.

At this point the trail splits.  Choosing the left spur will lead you down to Valley Road which would then run to the parking lot.  Taking the right hand trail will parallel Valley Road.

This is the view of the trail after turning right.

The last directional sign.  I had just run up on the trail that this sign is directing to Mt. Young/English Camp.

At this point you would stay to your left and run down hill towards the parking lot, which you can see, but is only a few minutes a way.

This is the way down the hill and to the parking lot.  You will need to climb over a log across the trail, but you are basically finished with this route at that point.
